Starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Knoxville, Jessica Simpson, et al
Rated PG-13, 106 minutes
It’s a stupid comedy. And if that’s what you want, that’s what you’ll get. Now, to the meat...
Bo & Luke Duke (Scott & Knoxville) are “cousins as close as brothers” who are in the moonshine business with their Uncle Jesse (played by Willie Nelson). It comes into light as we join their misadventures that there’s a big race comin’ on. They want to enter their car, the General Lee, against four-time winner Billy Prickett. Problem is the law is against them – Sheriff Rosco and Boss Hogg.
The main conflict? Boss wants to strip mine Hazzard County, and he needs their farm and about four others to do it. The people can object...but the court hearing is held during the big race.
That’s about all I’ll say. Not to say you can’t fill it all in from here. If you want to see Jessica Simpson’s ass and a bunch of cars, you’ve come to the right place. Everybody plays their roles capably, but I can’t help but mention James Roday, who portrays Prickett. He seems to be playing Ben Stiller playing Prickett. It’s pretty annoying.
I like Burt Reynolds (who is Boss Hogg) and Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville and Willie Nelson and even former SNL player David Koechner. So seeing them with work already put a smile on my face. Not withstanding, the laughs aren’t as plentiful or big as they could be, and somebody could’ve written it better. So, if you come in knowing what you’re about to see, I still give “Dukes of Hazzard”...
***¼
...out of five. There are funny things within, but they just could’ve done more. Don’t see it if none of the above appeals to you. That is all.
